Just as well we changed the dates for the Blast Frozen Jam!! Evil or Very Mad
Friday is looking the best chance at the moment but it still looks all over the place and then back to easterlies!!

Awesome ride yesterday up Glyncorrwg with the kite crew, if there is no wind it's a great alternative!
Still can't believe how warm it was up there.

yes, had a fab day yesterday.  I was amazed how warm it was too , could almost imagine spring. We even treated ourselves to an ice cream on the way home.  sunny Ached a bit last night, could tell I hadn't done that climb since November, think the only saving grace is that we have been out on the bikes almost every weekend over winter due to not much decent wind.

6 weeks without a ride now... the weekend before xmas was the last time i was out on the water..
Is there anywhere on the north facing coast of Somerset that's suitable for kites or works in Easterlies? Somewhere like Minehead or Watchet?

Oh dear.  Reminds me of a joke though.

A guy trekking across Iceland on a skidoo, breaks down and calls the nearest garage.  The mechanic comes out and takes a look. After a few minutes he says "It looks like you've blown a seal"  To which he replied "No, it's just a little frost on my mustache"

I believe you can do Watchet on an E. Never been so don't know. Looking at the maps, you want to be heading for Helwel bay, as it looks like a little 'sandy there. Mostly looks like hard rock underfoot tho'

Minehead is 'doable' as well, but it's shit. A lot of metalwork on sea breaks, big ass rocks are used as the sea breaks.

Also Blue Anchor bay. Not tried it, but have had a recce. Looks doable, but you really need to be good, the water will come in fast, there is a high sea wall along most of it and a train track along a lot more of it. It also has a lot of 'wood work' at the high tide mark, towards The Hawn.
TBH it will have a small window of opportunity. Not a place to go alone

Trouble is, the roads to them are A roads, so you are at the mercy of the other slow people and you will find many on those journeys.

There is Stolford, but if you get it wrong there, you will end up outside Hinkley point. Looking at the maps, the pictures shown, big rock is used as the sea defence. Plus shows big stones at the high tide mark.

I think you need to try and be patient, but it's your call  . . .

More or less - yes

In reality it is the wind direction that is the real issue.

Every year around this kind of time we seem to get stuck with easterlies / northerlies

The Blast Frozen Jam is the same kind of time each year also, fortunately we have been extremely lucky as regards the timing of the Jam...last two years we've had no wind right up till the date and then had at least one good day of wind.

Looks like no wind for the original date of the jam (this weekend) so hopefully we will be lucky once more for the end of the month.

Tony / Steve let me know if your planning to go out tomorrow, it looks like an am shout only.
It's forecast southerly so all beaches will be do able as long as we don't get the dreaded Southerly wind shadow!

Roll on the summer! afro
