Water temps are obviously dropping rapidly now so a good idea to double check your gear.
This happened to a friend of mine down West Wales over the Xmas holiday, he ended up with a swim.

Double check lines for any knots, snags etc, check the bridles/depower rope/QR etc etc

Looks like it's just slid off the bar. That would have been a bit of a surprise.

It broke off, it didn't "slide" off, if nothing else it shows it can happen to any bar really and most are the same under all the outer glossy stuff.

I can't see anything that looks broke but I suppose anything, no matter how high the quality can fail. I think that is a great bar but it's been over engineered now.

I had something very similar happen to me on my old blade bar. The screw that goes through the bar end had corroded/sheared off, which led to my bar end flinging off and suddenly only having two lines...it was definitely a shock but luckily I was in the shallows at the time, would have been a very cold winters swim otherwise. I bet no-one checks those screws. Not sure whether you should or not, but a thought anyway.

Gotta say I can't see a lot of corrosion on the rivet that holds it together which still looks intact. Must have broken inside the float area. I still have that bar as my spare, going to check it now! Had a depower line go mid kite loop once, that was not pretty so I really don't want to lose a steering line!

Looks like 2013 bar maybe, doubt it would be a corrossion issue as they have a blind rivet to control salt water getting in, unlikely to be a stress fracture due to use but possible could have been caused by mishandling, maybe accidently dropping it onto a hard surface although that area is covered in soft foam material. Would like to see photo of plastic bit that was riveted to the bar. Thanks for posting that has stirred me to look at mine, I expect like most people I thought that sort of failure had been engineered out ages ago, as a beginner I guessed I was the weakest bit of equipment !!!!
