Meters are showing a little this morning so maybe it'll pick up throughout the day or even a sea breeze. Not much forecast for the week..

We're back......minus all our kite bags which are still with Virgin Airlines somewhere. Hopefully they will arrive today.
(They wouldn't fit on the small connecting internal flight from Norfolk Virginia)

Another successful and truly cracking trip, great conditions with some of the best flat water in the world and waves just a few hundred metres away on the other side of the island...awesome group too with massive progression from all.
Missing the crew already.
This trip we had some of the warmest conditions we've had there and only needed shorts and rashie to keep the sun off.

Roll on Portugal cheers

The bank holiday forecast shows nothing above 9 knots!

Welcome back to the UK then... Missing Hatteras already.

Yeah... the personal instruction is very good, but the cost is a bit much. I hear they are opening a wake park at Cardiff Bay, but it's also 2 stage so probably just as expensive to use.

Good old free wind power! Just need a bit more this weekend!

Yeah . . .

Looking at the maps it's a 4.5hr drive for us (could drive to Glasgow for 1.5hrs more) Not that I would, but you get my drift Smile

Greatstone is a possibility and 'only' 3.5hrs away

North Wales is awesome but not in NE, Lligwy is possibly the best beach in that direction but it gets so crowded it's almost like sandbanks!

Yeh we've kited most of the beaches up there and obviously we'd rather the more usual SW direction so we can kite Rhossy or Newborough

Yeah and my other local Black rock is rubbish by the way, choppy and gusty, definitely no lovely flat lagoons to see there - best steer clear and stay up north at Rhossy! Also Hells Mouth is rubbish, on a busy day i have seen 3-4 kites up which means barely a mile of beach each

To be fair the Atom boards are fantastic value too!
Think our are going to be seeing a fair bit of action this summer if it continues like this.

Pembrey was ok earlier on wind wise, but full of massive jellyfish, so I did not bother.

Exmouth seafront was very good today
Nice waist to chest high on the push further out back and esp over Dawlish Warren side

Silly overpowered at times on the 12m wave, could've quite easily been on the 9m Wave or 10m VX
But was trying out a Shinn Turbo, in a smaller size I would normally ride. 132x42 compared to my board 135x44

Really good board

Carrie was on her 8 VX

 Cool

Simon and I went out at Weston. Really good wind. Cross shore, slightly off. We had a nice long session, but then things started going wrong...

Simon lost his board, and as he was recovering it he accidentally popped his safety. As it happened this coincided with the wind swinging a lot more offshore. I saw this happen and went to pick up Simon's board, but as I picked the board up I accidentally triggered my own safety with his board. Something on my kite tangled and I started getting pulled straight out, fast. To cut a long story short we ditched both our kites and swam in with the boards. At this point I thought we had seen our kites for the last time as they were going out quickly.

Someone had already put out a call to the coastguard a guy showed up on the beach pretty soon. Obviously we let him know we were ok and that they didn't need to worry, but they launched their boat anyway and went to get our kites. The coastguard/ RNLI kept an eye on the kites from the beach and coordinated the pickup. They got both the kites and were really nice about the whole incident, all things considered. We owe them big time and they will definitely be getting a case of beer as well as a generous contribution to their new life guard station!

I'm sure there are some lessons to be learned, but I'll have to have a proper think about what we did right and what we did wrong.

Glad to hear you two are OK

Weston RNLI are a good crew and they have rescued several kiters when they've had problems

Yesterdays direction would have worked 'better' at Brean. It is still not the best wind there, but it is way better than weston

It makes you appreciate how amazingly lucky we are having such a great organisation in the RNLI..if that had been most other spots in the world it would have been good bye kites at the very least.

I'm glad both yourself and Simon are ok.

If I had the time to train Tony I would be up for that, unfortunately there's not enough hours in the day. Count on me for a donation though. Smile
