PostSubject: Blast Brazil Trip 2014    Mon Apr 21, 2014 4:39 am

We have had several people contact us in the last few days asking if we're going to do the Brazil Trip again this year.

So, the dates are going to be 15th - 29th November. The problem is that the flights are already showing as being £800+. I know we paid that much last year but they weren't coming up as so much quite so early. I'm guessing the world cup being there is pushing the cost up so we can only hope that they'll come back down after that. The other dilemma is that if we are going to go then we will need to start booking our accommodation by next month, which means paying deposits also.

So last year the estimated cost was about right, £2000 each, therefore it could be anything between £2000 & £2500 ish, possibly more if the flights go through the roof.

Please let me know your opinions on what you would like to do.

1: do you want to go ahead and go anyway no matter what the flights do?
2: do you want to go ahead and reserve accommodation with the potential of loosing that deposit if the flights get too much?

Those coming so far:
Sarah
Marc
Dave F
Harry
Ben
Stuart
Pete
Victoria

Sarah,

Answers (not) to the exam questions:
1) I don't think I could say "go anyway no matter what the flights do?" but £2500 would be manageable.

2) Do we know approx how much (in deposits) we might loose?

Thanks
Dave

Like Dave says, depending on what we would lose in deposit, I would be happy to book and see what the flights do. So in theory, count me in!

Bing Travel has a price predictor feature which tells you whether you should buy or wait for the fare to drop. It also shows you a plot of the historical ticket price.

http://www.bing.com/travel/

I've used it before and it worked out for me.

Just some thoughts.....

The World Cup finishes start of July, so by November the price of airfare should be back to normal.
And the pound soared against the real this year so that's in our favour too.

I guess it's not possible to book the flights now if they're at a reasonable level?

Flights I've seen are £850 ish more or less what we paid last year so it's up to u guys if you would like to book them now or wait? I'm happy to have the money in and book them if you want or equally happy to wait. Thanks for the link Victoria I'll check it out. I think the deposits last year added up to approx £200 - £300 I think.

The people who went last year, were you happy with the itinerary? Would you prefer to stay in a particular place a little longer? I can't please everyone but I will take it on board.

Just a thought....
It would also be nice if we could do one more day in Jeri. That place was like paradise Smile

do you think you will still have the same problem booking Ilya de guajero (spelled wrong!) for less than 5 days? It would if possible be nice to see that place.

Unfortunately Pete they will not let us stay any less than 4 nights. What we could do though is leave Jerri very early, kite at Ilha do Guajiru for the day and then get to Paracuru b4 dark?

We could stay in Jerri for another day Vic, just be aware it's the more expensive place so it will increase the price slightly, accommodation and eating wise, also we will need the drivers for another day. My thinking was maybe an extra day in Paracuru and one less in Cumbuco on the way back down the coast?

Booking Flights early:
I'm ok with this either way.
Do you and Marc have any views/preferences?

Itinery:
Less time in Cumbuco sounds good, particularly at the end of the trip. At the time I remember somebody (Pete?) saying it felt like going "back to Bagdhad" ;-)
An extra day at Jeri or Paracuru (or both!) seems a good option.
Also, if we are staying at the Cumbuco Guest House, it would be worth trying ensure that we were all in the main building rather than being spread around the Annexes, if that is at all possible?
Whatever - it is all good.

Is there a limit on numbers for this trip? I've been watching the thread and me and Beth are on the fence at the moment if space is available, wanted to see what people thought about the flights situation I presume if the decision is too book now the initial payment would be some £1100 flights & deposit?

Hi Niki there is Space but the trip will be full then so let me know for definite. I am in the process of sorting accommodation out so the flight and deposits will roughly be £1100 - £1200.

Oh okay, we looking at buying some new kites soon so the flights and deposit would be too much at the moment.

Hi Sarah,

If I come I'd prefer to book my own flight, as I'll be doing 3 weeks again, possibly 5. Been looking on Ebookers, flights with TAP via  Lisbon are £778, not much more than I paid last time, thats flying out on a Wednesday and back on a Monday though. Thats gotta be better than stopping at Sao Paulo too.

Could you give me some idea of what the trip (just the bit with you guys) will cost without the flights please.

Cheers

Stu

I need to know though if Valerie and Victoria are you happy to share a room or would you prefer a single room? Let me know ASAP please. I will be working out how much I need in deposit as soon as I can.  bounce

Hi Marc, missed all the comments as I had not subscribed! Definitely coming and happy to share with. Victoria. If you're looking to stay over on the 26th, there's room in my house in Cardiff, in a proper bed too! If it's windy, I 'll go kitesurfing first then directly to the Rose and Crown, so you can arrive the night before (Friday) if you wish! I'll PM you my mobile number. Valerie
