SWWKSC AGM – Sunday 1st June 2014 – 5.30pm at the 360 Beach and Watersports Centre Swansea

Dear Members

I am pleased to announce the club annual general meeting will be held on the 1st June at 5.30pm, at the 360 Beach and Watersports Centre in Swansea.

Full address: 360 Beach and Watersports, Mumbles Road, Swansea, SA2 0AY

Refreshments will be provided.

We will announce the agenda shortly via the club website and also on here, but one noteworthy issue is that at the AGM, Mark Walker will officially stand down as the Chairman of the SWWKSC.  The committee, and I'm sure the rest of the membership, would like to thank Mark for his hard work and commitment during his time in this role, and wish him the very best for the future.  As such, the position will become available.  If you have any interest in applying for this position, or would like further information, please let us know.

It would be excellent to see as many of you there as possible, as it’s an great opportunity to get involved and let us know what you want from your club for the new season. We have a few plans and ideas, but come along and support your local club and put forward any ideas and opinions you have…

Don't forget guys, this is creeping up.  It's the weekend after next.  If you have any issues you'd like to raise, but are unable to attend, just contact one of the committee and we will ensure that your voice is heard at the AGM.

Everyone is welcome, and there’s free beer all night a tea or coffee provided.

OK, So it's not the AGN (those that had the e-mail), but the AGM. I'm old, tired and need glasses. Anyhow, here are the notes from the AGM.

South and West Wales Kite Surfing Club

Annual General Meeting - 1st June 2014

Preliminaries

Introductions and welcomes were made by the club vice-chairman, James Drummond.

Discussion

Chairman -

The club chairman, Mark Walker, announced to the committee recently, that due to his many personal commitments, he felt he could no longer commit enough time to the club. Mark considered it unfair to continue in his role as he felt that he was unable to provide the members with the dedication that the post deserved.

Mark was thanked (in his absence) for his efforts during his chairmanship of the club.

In the AGM email sent out to members, offers for the position were invited. Only one was received, and James Drummond was both nominated and seconded at the meeting, meaning he now takes over the position of Chairman of the club.

Signage –

In addition to the existing signage the club has provided recently, signage at additional beaches was discussed. Oxwich was considered, but it was felt that due to the opposition encountered at the last attempt, the outcome would not be any different following a second request. Other beaches will also be considered.

The efficiency of the existing signs was questioned, as many visiting kitesurfers are still being observed in the surf/swimming areas, especially at Rest Bay.

The club is highly committed to promote the correct use of kitesurf areas at the local beaches, and other possible methods of conveying this information were discussed. An alternative suggestion was the printing of ‘flyers’ showing the correct areas to kite, which would be placed on obvious kitesurfers vehicles or popped under kitbags left on the beach.

Weather Stations –
It was noted that the weather station at Malcs Café had been very reliable in operation since the upgrade was performed a few months ago.

Events -

As per previous AGM findings, it was demonstrated that the membership wish to continue with a predominantly dormant club, but one which is available to continue the preservation of kiting rights at the local beaches. It was noted however, a small number of events would be offered, which would be attractive or beneficial to members.

Lewis Crathern Clinic -
Following the success of last year’s clinic, Lewis will be again invited to join the club members for a training clinic, possibly the first week in October.
Blast Summer Jam -
It is hoped that the club will be able to sponsor this popular event with a contribution towards the catering. It was also suggested that a raffle with small prizes could help promote the club. Offers were invited from any other local groups requesting club support for their events.
Channel Crossing Attempt –
It was suggested that the channel crossing attempt by Kelvin Lake’s team, could be an ideal opportunity for club promotion. Sporty will contact Kelvin to confirm if this would be appropriate.
Cardiff Wakeboard –
With the winds being particularly unpredictable this year, the club is considering holding a ‘partially funded’ event at the Cardiff Wakeboard centre. (The centre is not yet complete, so this event will obviously depend on the opening of this facility.)

Dates of all proposed events will be sent out once confirmed.

Name change -

The somewhat long, official name of the club has always been the subject of some light-hearted ridicule, and a call for a new name was made, though none suggested. Any suggestions would be welcomed and considered. A name which does not alienate any of the clubs members would be favoured and the predictable dragon reference was quickly discounted.

Logo/Stickers –

This topic was raised again this year. It was suggested that if an appropriate/popular logo could be created, that stickers could be made. It was felt that despite many kitesurfers knowing about the club, further confirmation by the display of a sticker, would obviously help in the clubs promotion. T-Shirts were also discussed, but considered too costly, and possibly an ineffective method of club promotion.

AGM 2015 -

It was decided that despite being geographically central to the South Wales coastline, as some of the clubs members live in the Bristol/Somerset/Midlands area, next year’s AGM will be held in Cardiff.

Accounts -
The club accounts and annual treasurers’ report were presented by club treasurer Howard Webber
