I should be ok with the weight but not sure about the amount of bags?
Will the kite gear & surfboard all need to be in one bag or can i strap the surfboard bag to the kite bag to make one (Big but under 23kg) bag ?

Hmm I guess it will depend whether they deem it is actually two bags strapped together rather than one single bag  Exclamation

Not long now !

Just wanted to check a few details, I've completed the ESTA form and have the reference number that's all I need to do isn't it ?
I'm guessing I need kite specific insurance - What company are you using for insurance & what did you pay?
What colour is your "I love windsurfing T - shirt" ? I don't want to clash

Essential Travel gave me a quote for about £84:00 for annual multi trip.

But I need to check this does cover kite surfing. It seems a bit cheap, last year they charged me about £120

I'm also looking at my current BKSA insurance wondering if this covers me for a two week trip to the States?

It says..

"any one trip outside the UK limited to 180 consecutive days of cover"

Not sure if that covers me?
Probably best not to risk it.

The BKSA mainly covers you 3rd party,  it will cover you for injury, but only in severe cases, ie loss of limbs,  eye sight, or death.

We're with Columbus Direct. When you buy your travel insurance they'll probably say that they cover you for kiting, BUT make sure they cover you for kiting on the sea as when you look at the small print it says it covers you for kiting on a lake! They then slap another ££ on. You MUST also have BKSA insurance if you're doing a trip with us.

Thinking of probably taking £200 worth in cash and just get any more out of the hole in the wall. Don't forget we're going to have a small kitty for food to so we won't have to be eating out all the time.  Last year we only ate out about 3 / 4 times in the 2 weeks. It's up to everyone what they want to do.

Lol.
Just be aware the temperature can really vary over there. It can be anything from shorts and rash vest, to a wetsuit and out of the water, it can be anything from shorts and t.shirts to jeans & a hoodie.

Just had a video from Dimitri at Epic showing what kit he has left Sarah and myself to use whilst in Hatteras. He always gives us a load of demo kit and hopefully some prototype kit to try whilst there.

We will still be taking 7 kites between Sarah & I though (two of which we are just returning to Epic)

We will be demoing these kites for Dimitri until he arrives back in Hatteras a few days after us. in other words these are not exclusively for us but kiters in general at the beaches we head too.

We paid £100 for the both of us for the year. We're with Columbus Direct, if u go with them just b careful, I asked the guy several times if it included kiting on the sea but upon reading the small print it said only on a lake!  Evil or Very Mad

I'll go back through it, no problem. I just couldn't find it when I was looking! Smile

Edit: Ok - Two bags allowed, 23kg each. One board bag, one normal suitcase. Correct?

At the moment we have a 4/3mm short leg suit packed but I will probably take a neoprene rash vest and shorts too.

On a different note, we have splashed out on a real dream holiday maker, we really know how to spoil you lot!

The thing is with Hatteras is that because it's so shallow on the sound side all it needs is a few hot sunny days and the water temps shoot up. Even just one hot day can do this.

I've been in a full suit in the am and by late pm only needed shorts...crazy.

Just looking on the virgin site and looks like they've upped there cabin bag allowance

Great news. From 31st March 2013, we’re increasing our hand baggage allowance in Economy, Premium Economy and Little Red flights from 6kg to 10kg, when flying to any Virgin Atlantic destination. Our Upper Class hand baggage allowance remains the same.

Room for 1 more kite? Don't take my word for it though...
