Lord knows they just launched a house washing scheme after all the dust .
The last samples I got sent to envirionment Wales came back as the usual . I can give you the Latin name but its an algae type thing . They think so much as the nutrient from the outfall at Swansea .
It's not been bad the last week or so

It has been the worst I've seen in many years at Aber? Normally it's only at low tide but the last few weeks it's been up towards mid-high tide!

I slipped and fell on it last week while teaching and we have to wash the kites after every lesson (not so much personal sessions as we are careful where to land the kite)

Read this on the ea website for abet

Phytoplankton (microscopic algae) naturally increase in number at certain times of the year. This process is known as a phytoplankton bloom. These algal blooms can occur at any beach during the bathing season and are usually noticeable by a surface scum. This beach has a history of such blooms.

I don't think I will complain about Aberavon scum again after having to wash creosote out of my winter wetsuit courtesy of the Severn. It was right where we got out too !! Yuk! Along with a great shopping trolley on display but alas no half drowned jet ski this time or caravan toilet !

Caswell Bay was even suffering at the hands of the algae today.  No where near as bad as Aberavon, but still green slime down the beach.  Never, ever seen any there before.

Not related to the algae of course, but THIS may be useful for a check of the water quality.
