PostSubject: Using your kiteboard on a cable?!    Mon Jul 01, 2013 7:56 am

Hoping to get up to WMSki over the next few months especially as work gets busier over the summer and I have less time to get to the beach.

I was just wondering how much of a difference in terms of rocker etc there is between a wakeboard and kiteboard and if anyone has used them for both, and how they found it. currently riding a 133 x 41 kiteboard

I am not wanting to go over the sliders etc so fins wont be a problem.

I have used a wakeboard with bindings on the cable and got on well with it and liked the bindings and didn't dip the nose.

What are peoples experiences , views etc.

You won't get a decent experience out of most kite boards on the cable unless you've got a full freestyle kiteboard ie: big rocker and small/no fins. You can't really hit any obstacles, learning to raley on a kiteboard is not fun, if you manage to pull one without losing the board with straps the exit from the corner at WMSki means you can come up on the beach.

Get on eBay and find a cheap wakeboard and old bindings its the only way you can do anything apart from get towed around and carve your kiteboard (which cable riders hate).

Thanks James, Been keeping an eye on Ebay and some decent boards are going at a good price, I may hold off for a while and see how many times i get there. I have looked and wakeboard hire is £5 for 2 hours so not bad as i have all the other kit needed. I have invested in a impact vest though so I don't look special in their BA things Wink

I think I am a bit of a way off learning to raley yet Shocked maybe an ollie at the moment Very Happy

For what u want to do on the cable Abi your kite board will b fine, the majority of the guys from Cardiff and Bristol Uni use their kite boards. Unless you're going to b pulling off big moves, I wouldn't waste your money :-)

Wakeboard hire is the way to go if you don't want to invest. Regular non/freestyle kiteboards with flattish rockers are not good for the cable, you'll be bored after your first session of holding on and carving. I may head down to WMSki at the end of the week if the sun holds out and the wind stays away.

Wicked day , out in rash vest and boardies ! Not too busy once we got there either ! Should have a good day if you go Friday James if the weather is like this ! Bitten by a horse fly though whilst walking back from far end after falling off , incentive not to do that again!

Yeah , gone and done it , a wakeboard arrives tomorrow ( fingers crossed) managed to get a pretty decent deal in the end . it's a grind board so has a special coat of something so shouldn't get damaged on the boxes etc But still has small moulded fins ! Going tomorrow afternoon to get some more hours in. Maybe nail the box and a few ollies!
