PostSubject: Epic 4G.....   Tue May 14, 2013 11:58 am

We are currently out on a Blast Group trip to Hatteras in Outer Banks USA and whilst here have been testing the 4G kites due to be released soon.

Epic have the regular Screamer/Renegade/Judge line up but also have a new WAVE kite in development and also a strutless kite, the WAVE is very unique looking and quite out of the box thinking going on but having done a downwinder in the Ocean with Dimitri yesterday it deffo seems to be working well.

The wave kite has a freaky shape to it......what's the main thing with it? Stability in the air and quick turns?

Yup, extreme stability when riding towards it(down the line riding) and quick turning on its axis with little power.
Only had a quick go it yesterday, hopefully more tomorrow as great winds for rest of week plus swell plus temps in the low 80's too!

Very disappointing as they didn't have "super fantastic" or "legendary" written all over them.
Only two large V on each side!......looked pretty much the same as this years otherwise.

Couple of shit hot guys doing there stuff on them though, so cool to watch

But back on track...once again so much stuff going on at Epic for the future.
Graphics similar to the 3G's but more colours....by far the best looking kites on the water here, especially the new Screamers!

The Surf kite is likely to have no pulleys just direct lines......can't wait to try this some more.
4g Screamer and Renegades kites look like they will have the new Ronstan pulleys

The new bar has a much larger throw on it( so much more depower) it has a nice new stopper though so easy to adjust the throw.
It also has extra pig tails which are super tough so virtually indestructible.

5m weather tomorrow apparently so hoping for a full day of mega loops on 7m Screamer and then downwinder planned for the slicks plus also another downwinder in the surf as expected 2.4m swell due too!

Unlikely that they'll be the finished kite though?

They are filming the promo James so most likely finished kite... Shame about the motivational statements missing though. I will only buy kites with 'super fantastic' written on them from now on... Anyway this is an Epic thread no more North talk although I might invite SuperEZ to join in... (just joshin Marc) Wink

Just seen this reiew by someone testing the kites yesterday at a demo in OBX

Sums up Dimitri/Cameron and Epic nicely

Dimitri from Epic showed up with his son Cameron a couple sunsets while I was there and I got a chance to chat/hang with them. They brought some great energy to a few sunset sessions that week with some seriously fun father/son jumping. At one point Dimitri was holding a little still camera while riding taking pictures of his son. I think he was shooting pictures while airborne down at his son... Never mind being 10 yrs. old Cameron rocks on the water!

Anyhow as I was coming in with the RRD Dimitri says, "You look like a Renegade guy here try this". I'm not sure what size it was but I think it was the 11m Renegade. I was well-powered and this kite rode a little farther back in the window than the RRD. When I peeled off slightly downwind to "surf" and carve the tiny rollers on my Mako King this kite was clearly in it's glory. The bar was comfortable and though I don't prefer an above the bar strap system depowering was just within reach and effective.

I came in and Dimitri said, "Here take this 14m Screamer". It's funny the Epic kites I was on followed the wind flow as the wind was lighter when I grabbed the 14m Screamer. Riding more to what I'm used to this kite pulled me upwind nicely and was quite reactive for a 14m. My gusty home conditions and mellow style require more throw depower so this kite maybe too much for me. I've ridden Screamers in different sizes and they are super fast and responsive. Coupled with the right rider the Screamers will take you to the sky. I do believe though I am a "Renegade guy"...

I came in needing a break and found Dimitri rolling out his new pure wave kite. It's still in development but this shape is wild (think Saker Falcon). I gel with "energy/passion" people and Dimitri embodies both these traits and puts them into his kites!

Another review, this time the 10m LTD

I was fortunate enough to get about 2 hours kiting on the Screamer 10 Ltd 4G prototype this weekend in winds ranging from 16-28 mph. I weigh around 180lbs and this is my 4th season kiting. I've been riding a 2010 Screamer 10 Ltd since my first season and this was an awesome opportunity for me to compare the old versus new. First off let me say I love my old Screamer, but like others have said before.... it's a bit twitchy to say the least. It does have a ton of power and shoots upwind with ease. And it definitely boosts like crazy! All that being said it is a kite that always required my full attention. Gusts were a definite headache on this kite. Since 2010 I've been fortunate enough to be able to try each version of the Screamer 10. The 2011 was definitely more stable, but less powerful and didn't go upwind quite as well IMO. And the 3G 10m was excellent. So good that when Dimitri convinced my girlfriend to give it a go she was an instant convert from her beloved Renegade 11 (2010). Well the new 4G kite is absolutely AMAZING!. I kited on and off with it for a few hours yesterday and it was super stable and crazy powerful for it's size. It actually feels more powerful than the 3G Screamer 12 to me. And upwind ability was mind blowing. My girlfriend and I both couldn't believe how the kite basically drags you upwind effortlessly. Boosting was excellent, as it is with all the Screamers. Needless to say I think I may finally have to retire my ex-Favorite kite, my 2010 Screamer 10 in favor of the new 4G model. It has exceeded all of me and my girlfriends expectations about what is possible with a well designed 10 meter kite. Of course I can definitely foresee my girlfriend and I fighting over who gets to fly it

The 4G will start with the Renegades followed by the Screamer next month, not sure on price of the 4G yet but sure there will be a slight increase but hopefully not too much!
