Hey Al, where are we with the Aber windy-o-meter now?  Is it just a case of installing it. Or are you waiting for the RNLI station to re-open.  I'm willing to fit the externals if required, just let me know what you've arranged with RNLI or Remos.  Be good to get it working again.

Hi sorry been silly with work . It's all setup other than the anemometer head .
I am meeting Anthony at Remos next week when I am on leave.
If anyone has access to some very very large jubilee clips they would be handy

Hi Alunj

Try screw fix for stainless steel clips you could consider a pack of 10 and join them together to increase the clip diameter to suit

Part number 90351 might be worth considering?

Just a thought

( happy to foot the ladder if required )

If you're unsure of the length, then Jubilee-clip-on-a-roll is probably better.  I had a roll somewhere in my garage, will have a look to see if I still have it.

Very Happy Cut it out now you guys...

Like I (kinda) said, I'm away until next year now, but if it's not installed by then Al, let me know and I'll come along an lend a hand. I'm unable to locate the roll in the garage after a preliminary search, but I will investigate further upon my return.

Cheers it turns out I cannot get out of work atm and have had to cancel leave so next week is a better bet for me.
Someone needs to get to Malcs too. Probably flat battery in console . Also I am STILL paying for the broadband at rest . I have tried to get this sorted for the last six months . As of 1 jan I will be cancelling the broadband as it seems to be the only way to get someone to take it over . Malc is busy enough that he should be funding his own connection but always makes excuses . I can't keep paying this . I am always happy to help out with fixing hardware and software but dintvthink it's reasonale to continue paying for the broadband .

Well you know we'd chip in with that but then again Malc is getting a very large free meal at the moment so maybe it is best to let it die at least till he realises he needs the wifi!

Thanks Marc . I know you're happy to help out but Malc keeps promising he will take it over and then makes some excuse or other not to. He was supposedly sorting something with huw last I heard . Perhaps if you see him you could give him a poke. Smile

I will let you know thanks . It is a pretty easy install there . Going to fix the anemometer head to the light fixture and the rest on the roof. I will probably be down there from about 10.

No its probably the one in the console itself, you need 3 x C cells . There is a little door in the back of the console hanging on the wall. While your there can you talk to Malc about him  taking on the bill ( for the internet) ?

Thanks Smile

Alun, your effort is hugely appreciated. And your solo contribution thus far to the upkeep of the Rest Bay cafe internet - that's certainly beyond the call of duty.

Don't forget the club and Marc have contributed too. I'm just a bit peed off with Malc . Been trying for ages to get him to take over the bill for Internet , it's not like it's expensive in the scheme of things .
Back in the day when a pc was needed it seemed fair as it probably used about that in electric , now we probably draw less than 1w, so about £1.12 a year , a pc would use 350 quid a year (300w 24x7)

Thanks for all the effort getting the W/S's up and running, music to my eyes/ears! Such a valuable thing to have when living an hour from the beach, to save those wasted journeys.  Blast weather page looks fantastic, must be the best in the uk. Thanks again.

Not Many shops have real live (10 second update) weather. Its a PIA to get going but invaluable once its there. I have seen many people try and do this for $$$ and fail .  I think the way we have done it is best.
I think we have some $$$ left in the kitty to keep stuff going for now. But as always donations are always handy. Maui has a paypal account setup for this.
Going forward I dont know if there is anywhere else we could try and crowdfund a station for. Llanelli is one place that springs to mind. Pembrey doesn't give a very regular update and always over reads.
Personally I rekon coney would be an interesting one as we don't have any exposure to an E wind at Aber or Rest.

Remos are also going to fund a good quality webcam too with a zoom. Hopefully we can target the kite end of the beach with a system a little like gennith. (locking out the surf area as the toe rags would just nail it)

I see that one but dont know where it actually is, readings look ok for today but wind will be dependent on where it is. You only need to be a few hundred meters inland to get a hugely different reading

You only have to take a peak at this to get the idea (for the whole coast on a day like today)
http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

Pembrey is showing 33mph at the mo
Mumbles 23-43mph

It's (very) small kite weather where ever you go!
