Sonny. We're trying to get the weather stations back online, I've been instrumental in helping Alun to do this and I will continue to be. I offered the iPhone charger as an alternative so that we can get the Rest station back up, I don't know if it will work but I'll speak to Alun about it.

I am aware the the iPhone and iPad chargers are different but as they both charge both devices it's not beyond the realms of possibility that an iPhone charger may work for the Pi which is why I offered it free of charge.

Being a smart arse and posting images (which you nicked from Moose) makes you look like a dick, an unoriginal one at that.

The chargers put out a different ma
a few ma will make all the difference

I was trying to be helpful, not a dig at you. "It was *not* all about you" it was a case of being factual

The picture was not 'stolen' from Moose, it's called google images and very appropriate i.e. OOOoooo
Just like Reeves & Mortimer would do

Enjoy your hot place, I'm off to the east coast for some respite from the heat and some wind

Enjoy

Been to Malcs today. It's all plugged in and lit up, but the Pi is not requesting a DHCP lease from the router. Without a monitor on the Pi it's impossible to tell what it's doing. I've changed the network cable for a "known good" one, just in case there a cable fault, but I didn't have chance to retest before I left. The router is working fine, all tested good with that. Next step is to plug in a monitor to the Pi to see what's happening. Sad

Sporty/Alun. As the Pi seems to be the problem would a cheap netbook be a better option?

No need for a "cheap one", I have a spare one which will be more than good enough and I'm happy to donate it.  Going away for 3 weeks though, will need to sort out upon my return.  I'm sure the Pi is OK too, but as it has no monitor screen, it's very difficult to set-up and maintain.

So the Pi has got the better if me and and sporty !
Does anyone have a net book or small old notebook we can use for rest ?
It doesn't matter if its windows or not . I can sort software out pretty quickly .
The smaller the better and ideal one that will run with the lid shut .

I spoke to Alun today at the beach after a lovely session. The computery parts for the W/S at Malcs should be here this week and with little wind forecast it will be the perfect time to get Malcs back online.

The wind cups on Aberavon need replacing, I believe that the Lifesaving Club have made a request for donations for this cost. Alun, do we have any money left from the PayPal account to give them?

I'm off from Wednesday for a couple of weeks if I can be any help let me know.

no donation required they are going to sort that, may take a while as the thing is on a scaffold pole and is cabled with a run thru the roof, Leigh of Aber lifeguards will deal with it.
Remos is close to being doable, the builders have nearly finished Smile

the box of tricks is a dedicated piece of hardware that just does weathe station to Internet.
the plus side of this is we will have a nice smartphone/ tablet page too.

Hi Alun, I'm back from holidays now. What's the score with the PC at Rest? Do you need this lappy I have? I'll be in the office on Wednesday, I can have it ready for you from then if you're passing. It currently has a vanilla install of XP. Oh, and can you let me have my Pi from Malcs if you are no longer using it please ( I have a project in mind....) If you need a hand to do anything, just give me a shout, as it looks like we won't be busy kitesurfing any time soon....

new hardware seems to be working at mo. it is a dedicated weather bridge.
Im going to need some money from the paypal kitty for this. In additoin the out side battery still needs replacing. James was going to source one?
Its A lithium CR123A. So there is no datacoming from outside untill that is done. the new hardware seems to work only time will tell.

try these urls too
on your PC
http://meteoplug.com/cgi-bin/meteochart.cgi?draw=858486868f889ccbd1d493d4a3a0aea1e9b6b2a9ada4bfb9b873a2a2e0eff0f6fcf1f2f9f783fa878a87faf980898994f5f4f9

if you have an iphone try this one , save it to your homepage.
when you launch in portrait you will get a text detailing conditions , turn your phone left landscape or right landscape for graphs and live data

I can cheat alsoet of custom graphs , the iPhone ones are free , the others require a 29 euro licence .
Not sure if that will be worth it. The iPhone ones are provided free of charge even after the thirty day trail is over . Gonna be down to weather people want it or not.

So the hardware seems good.
So far I have spent from the kitty
MicroPC 38 quid
Software licence 49 euro
Replace wind cups 75 quid
Battery 8 quid

To get aber on the go I need another micro PC (i found an even cheaper one )
Thats 20 quid.

Also needs a battery (james has bought this thanks SWWKSC)

So total spend so far is 180 quid. aber should be on in the next few days.

The pc one should work ok BUT that's on free trail only iPhone is included free. There is no app it's a web clip web page . Having said that androod can run wind alert and weather underground which take feeds from the station so no problems .
The graphs are a bit of a plus but not the only way of seeing the data.
Once all the feeds are in place ( wunder ground wind alert I kitesurf and wind finder I will put up a List of all the links and the apps for apple and droid

Rest is dead again . I know Malc has been installing new CCTV so may have disturbed something .
If someone could go down , I am tied up the next few days at least .

Technically go down get on wireless and see if you can ssh to 192.168.1.20
I should be able to do that from here but can't so most like ly it needs a reboot

Right more problems !
The outside unit at rest has failed again. Both the temp sensor and the transmitter have died.
I think the issue is there is a backup to the battery that keeps a charge overnight ( a super capacitor)
Ive ordered one to replace the existing and also a new battery again. (as the faulty cap causes the battery to die quickly)

Im still looking for some help to do aber , its sitting here ready to go in.

Anyone free at all this week ?
