And on that topic I've just sent Blast HQ a £10 donation.......finally!

Do we need to make the Rest Bay WA bullet proof? If so, I can bring some kevlar plates back from Iraq in August......

Those wanting to see live weather from their iPad or iPhone just need to get an browser app called Photon. Here's a screen grab from my iPad today.

Nice to see a WS back up and working, thanks to Alunj & those involved, it will hopefully save me a small fortune in wasted journeys on the chance of a good wind.

As the weather is as fine as it is and the sea breezes aren't (currently) playing ball. Is it worth maybe orgainising a morning to fit the weather station at Rest Bay? maybe Sunday morning. Just a suggestion

As far as I can tell the bracket has been made at its at Blast HQ? So this needs fixing onto the roof. Alun said he was going to order the Wind cups so they were ready to go up at the same time. Have they arrived yet?

The computer system etc is beyond me but if you are free on sunday morning Alun is it worth doing some training or something if there are a few locals around in case it needs rebooting. I think Blast are running this one, but may be worth doing for when they are teaching/on holiday

been a bit of a while now and its all become stagnant and we could do with the wind meters more now than in the winter!

Plus I think Alun is on holiday from end of next week for over 3 weeks so be good to get this ticked off the list otherwise it will be end of August.

Ok, I'm a local and I work in I.T. However I work in Cardiff in the day, so I don't get back to Port Talbot until about 16.45(ish) on a work day.

If I can help though I will.

I can be around Sunday if you need me, but I'm also working Saturday night so I might not be around until 10-11ish.

Yeah, great idea Abi, we really need to get this going now. I do work in IT and have supplied a Pi for Alan to use at Rest, however I also now have a spare laptop which could be used instead if he thinks this will be more reliable. Sunday is awkward for me this weekend, but any weeknight after work I'm usually free. Same as Alan though, I'm away for three weeks from 25th. If it does kick off tomorrow, I'll see if I can shift things around, even if it means attending for just an hour or two, but all next week from 4:30pm is good for me.

Things also to consider/tools required
Access - Are ladders required?
Hardware for mounting to the wall - Rawlbolts are best, probably M8 (x4)
Suitable hammer drill, masonry drill bits (for the wall) and possibly wood/metal bits (cable entry into the building)
Silicon sealant or weatherproof sealant to make good the cable entry
Good quality zinc paint - Galvafroid or similar for the bracket bolts
Extension lead
Spanners/sockets
Cable clips (Alan, what size cable is used)
Cable straps/zip ties
Waterproof tape for the external connection
Hammer

I have all of this stuff except the M8 Rawlbolts.

the type is CR123A pretty much sold anywhere , tescos, PC world, currys etc

Good to get the external stuff done today though, just some tinkering with the computer end, which we think we can resolve easily, and she'll be up and running. Hurrah!

Im gonna drop the configured Pi with Marc tomorrow.
I need someone with IT skills to give him a hand.
The Pi needs power ethernet and usb to the station . All those leads are there behind the counter ready to plug in.
Someone will need to configure the ADSL router to give the PI a static IP and port map SSH to the thing for maintenance. I can talk someone thru that from where ever , sporty would be a good bet .

Ive found the only adaptor that works reliably for me is an apple ipad adaptor. Im gonna loan mine for now but would appreciate it if we can buy one if it works ok while Im away.
