| How many of us have got insurance? We know plenty haven't. Whether it be BKSA or any other, last Sunday is a classic example of why we must be insured. Kites and boards flying up the beach and plenty of members of the public around! No doubt about it, had a kite hit someone down there on Sunday they would have sued, how many of us have £10 million in our back pocket?
Even after all our years of kiting it was still shocking at how quickly things went wrong. |

| I was certainly glad to know i had insurance last weekend! Luckily my kit didn't hit anyone but the way my board took off that would have def hurt anyone walking by! Better to part with £40 per year then have the stress of court cases and personal injury claims.
I've already seen signs on Devon beaches stating that all kiters need at least £5,000,000 third party cover to kite there!

| Unfortunatley the people who say "nah I don't need to pay for insurance" are exactly the sort of people that should have it.
If your using a kite for traction it's only responsible to be covered. |

| Can I add that if you are joining the BKSA please could you join the local club via the drop down menu on the BKSA membership page, it's the South & West Wales Club.
The club is currently in the process of organising signs for Rest Bay, a new website and will be organising a couple of events for it's members and will continue to be active in keeping the local beaches free to use for all. By joining you can help ensure that we all enjoy our beaches in the future.
Thanks!! |

| Yup, member of both. As Abi says, at some beaches insurance is mandatory. I personally think it should be mandatory at ALL beaches, but not sure you could possibly enforce that. It's up to peoples conscience I suppose. |

| We know of quite a few who aren't !
I'd just like to add that anyone wishing to take part in our kite Jam later on this month and joining us on any of our trips must have insurance. |

| Not sure I'd have described Sunday as "Near Perfect Conditions", but they were certainly better before the squall than during it! A wake up call to all of those without insurance! Fortunately things turned out OK on this occasion, and of course insurance will never stop an accident from happening, but I know I'd be glad I had it if things got a little funky. |

| When you know the truth behind a news story it makes you wonder how much truth there is to everything else you read.
Regarding the BKSA insurance - I do have insurance, but I can't join the South Wales club because the website only lets me join one club and I needed to join North Somerset for local landboard insurance. I know there are a few people in the same situation as me. Perhaps this is giving a false impression that people don't have insurance?

I don't believe that myself. People would never travel that far. |

| Well it's worth travelling all the way from Bristol as I not only got to go in the heli but the media insist on reporting that I am in my 20's - even though that period of my life was well into the last century I can easily live with statements like that!
BKSA or any other third party liability insurance should be mandated but even if it were many may still not join - perhaps peer pressure to have insurance might be a better method? If that bar/kite had hit a member of the public and not me the I'm sure the media would have taken a very different view. My BKSA club affiliation is currently with the Hayling Club where accidents there led to loads of public/council pressure to (unsuccessfully) ban kitesurfing. |
