My thoughts on winter kiting in the UK:

Make sure your gear is in top condition, big gusts are going to test your gear to its full potential. Check your canopy, lines, connections and bridals (if you have them). Old/well worn gear is not something you should consider.

Check the weather carefully, it has a habit of changing quickly. Always look at the prevailing weather when you're out.

Do not get over tired or too cold, this will drastically increase your response times.

If you are wearing a coat to ride in make sure you can get to the release for your kite, I've seen a number of people riding wearing these coats who would never get to their release if they needed it in a hurry.

Wherever possible go somewhere warm and sunny.

Cheers James,
above is so important during the winter like I have already posted in sessions it is NOT the same in the winter!

The winds are often stronger and gustier, they will not be as steady, they will often be really difficult to handle...yesterday it was showing between 6-40 plus mph in places.

As well as double checking all your equipment, make sure you have decent cold weather gear i.e.

Winter wetsuit 5/4mm min
Boots
Gloves
Hood

A summer/spring is fine in the summer, it may even be do-able while your actually up and riding in the autumn/spring but believe me it won't be much use in the winter if your kite goes down and you fail to relaunch it and you end up spending any time in the water!

Make sure you tell people where your kiting, what time you will be back etc
But...even better ONLY kite with others!

And while we are talking Safety....GET INSURANCE!
Can't believe how many still have no insurance despite us continually going on about it.
