Hiyall,
I just recently got a new (well not new but you know what I mean) van (07 vivaro lwb low roof panel van) and I'm really keen to get as many ideas as possible about kitting it out before I start. I'm not going for a full camper conversion, it's more for carrying kit, the occasional cuppa and maybe maybe sleeping occasionally... will need to put in back seats and windows for the fambily so any and all ideas welcome. I'd really appreciate seeing any pics people have of their setups...
Cheers and happy chrimbo! santa

yeah i heard that about the gearbox... re seats I was going to get

and get them fitted but if there's an easier option I'd be keen to hear more! I haven't lifted the ply floor yet - there's specific clip in seat options then are there?
thanks

I have a SWB Vivaro (same as Traffic).. It just kitted out for kiting, Pull out bed but no legal seat, needs the seat belts, windows, insultated and carpet lined. I need to get some proper stoarge installed which I will get done after Xmas. I was going to get the full camper conversion when I first got it but then realised it would just get covered in sand and wet kites!

Ha yeah I figured the same... New camper conversion + lots of sand = potential waste of £££s, Have found some ideas from interweb, might box the back section (behind the seats) with ply to give lots of storage and then space for a bed on top of everything. Hmmm

Take a look at MarkW's van, he has the same van also, it has a blocked off rear end similar to ours when we had one before the sprinter we have now.

Got the windows fitted, cost about £300 with the tint, it was basically a plain ply lined panel van when I got it. It took a while to find one without a bulk head which are hard to remove on the Traffic's. Then I just banged in some insultation and built a ply ceiling, stuck some curtains up and installed the pull out bed.

I would love to have a seperate sealed off area for wet stuff at the back but being SWB it's not really long enough. I do wish I had got a LWB now but ho hum...

That red looks great but can fade really badly as mine has...

Ha ha blast that's awesome - love the separate compartment for the shaver! no wonder youre always looking so swish... Laughing

P Where did you get the window done? Was that local?

So you guys reckon a separate blocked off compartment in the back is a good idea? I guess it makes sense... would miss the view out of the back window though...

I got mine done in Cornwall.. So really not local!

I would go with the seperate compartment.. Miss the back window view? Spoken like a true car driver! Best thing about having no rear window is that you have no idea when some nobhead tries tailing gateing you in a Audi down the motorway!! Wink

They ask if you have a rear seat and sometimes assume that becuase you have windows you have a seat. I have had them peer into the back of the van a few times to check...

The windows and seat cost £500 together.. Thats £5 saving on each crossing.. Wonder if I have done it 100 times in the last 4 years and it's paid for itself..?

I tell you what also helps, a tv arial on the roof! Convinced that helps to convince them it's a camper, even with all the sign writing on it.

Haha.. I am recording the missed session's in a spreadsheet to drive myself completely crazy!

Reeny wasnt insured on the van as it cost a fortune, but she had to drive it back from Exmouth when I popped my shoulder. I had to phone up and add her to the insurence which was about £300 for 2 months!

She can drive it 3rd party only now so she will be able to drive me back from the beach after my next accident!

Yup... Second shoulder dislocation in Feb 2012 (first one March 2008 kiteloop into 20cm water!) landing on it very hard from a messed up railey.... I rode around on it over the summer carefully and then went in for surgery in late Sep. Still recoverying ATM, should be back Feb..

I think about kitesurfing like.. ALL THE TIME!

Ah rubbish man sorry to hear that - that sucks. I did my shoulder a couple of years ago and I was worried I'd get a recurrent dislocation but seems to be ok (just a bit sore from time to time but that's my stupid fault for not doing the physio) mind you I haven't ever pushed it as hard as it sounds like you do.... better to have the surgery and pay the price in time off the water now than have it pop out all the time though I guess. How long til they say you can be back on the water?

Yeah.. I didn't have surgery after the first dislocation and just went mental on the phiyso. It felt absolutely fine for the next 4 years and not even a twing of pain. Thought I had got away with it but then landed on it so hard in Feburary it popped again. Much more damage this time and took four painful attempts to relocate it. Then they told me it was pretty fooked and need stabilsation. But I didnt want to sit the summer out so delayed the surgery. That was pretty dodgy to be honest as it felt pretty loose all summer long but I got away with it...

It's 4-6 months off the water as the it takes ages before you can start regaining strength, that said I am just over 3 months in and can do press ups again so it's well on it's way to being fixed. I have a surgeon appointment 28th Jan and I hoping he will sign me off as back to kitesurfing...

Number Rule 1 of recovery.. Do your phyiso dude!! Wink

Also try o'learys motorhomes for supplies, equipment.

Sadly no mods to our van Dave, it is our only vehicle and used as an every day workhorse and is SWB so not big enough really. Would love to have a LWB high top as second vehicle to convert but cant' afford it unfortunately. Roll on lottery win!
