PostSubject: Broken....for now   Tue Dec 11, 2012 8:15 am

Did wonder if I should put this in the safety section but tbh I dont think there is much that could have been changed if I was there again today.

Kiteloop followed by very powered fast landing and then the board caught an edge (the board was not facing down wind enough) water as approx a foot deep from what I recall but it would have made no difference what ever the depth.

Anyway, I'm home now and leg in plaster but no longer the toe to thigh I was originally put in and hopefully I don't need an operation too (fingers crossed)

6-8 weeks no load bearing, plenty of time to work on other stuff
AND, still keen to get to the beach as much as possible and be involved.
Remember we have a van full of demo kit so if anyone is interested in trying anything let us know ( we do have to send kit off to other parts of the UK also so check first)

I thought it was going to be great day, good winds, sunshine, great crowd and Sarah on the camera, we were also meant to be flying early this morning to visit Blankforce in Barcelona for the week...hey ho, shit happens!

It wont be that long and at least the school is shut for the winter anyway and I'll be ready for the new season come the springtime.

Lastly...

BIG THANKS to all those who helped out on the w/end, dragging me out of the water, keeping me occupied with banter whilst waiting for coastguard/ambulance and gathering all the kit I'd taken down onto the beach.

Going to be fun and interesting times with both myself and Sarah on crutches at the same time!

Marc

I still don't get how you broke your ankle.....was it the twisting motion with your feet in the straps? Or just the impact of the board smacking the water and sending that thro' your ankles.

Ouch either way....

He's torn the major ligament in his foot/ankle and the shock wave has travelled up his leg and broken his fibula at the top by his knee. The board wasn't pointed down wind enough on landing so it's flipped over and forced his foot backwards. affraid

Yikes....my mum had a compound fracture of the tib and fib from falling off some small steps - just goes to show how easy it is to snap the 'bungees'.....

My recent war wound isn't as dramatic but I kite looped into the shallows at Rest the other day (ironically after discussing some of the finer points with Marc) and face planted into the beach - with Go-Pro smacking into the bridge of my nose.

Lessons learnt - don't kite loop near the shallows and don't pull too much with the rear hand when you're quite low down. C'est la vie.....I do have quite a natty cut on my face now...
