Not much of a problem more of an FYI , just seen this on Cumbuco Guest house front page

Important Information : ATMs in Cumbuco only accept Mastercard ! The next ATM with Visa will be in Caucaia or Fortaleza or Fortaleza Airport ! On the way from the airport please ask your taxidriver to stop at EXTRA SUPERMARKET MISTER HULL there are various ATMs inside !

! ! ! PLEASE DONT USE THE ATM AT THE BAKERY IN CUMBUCO ! ! !

The official count down has begun cheers bounce sunny

There is an ATM at the airport, also in Jerri. Think I might take a little more cash that originally thought. Thanks Abi.

There are ATM's in the airport also.
The info on the Guest House website is pretty old I think, the Bakery ATM used to get skimmed regularly.

If anyone still has to arrange insurance, www.coverwise.co.uk prices are great! Kitesurfing (on water) is covered as standard on their policies.

Most Pousadas do (certainly the ones we will be in Cumbucu and Jeri) or the Pousada can look after items too if not.

I had a kite rip from leading edge to trailing edge in Brazil a few years back (trying to rescue another kite..long story)
Anyway I ended up getting it repaired in a dress shop in Prea (next to Jeri) the lady did a perfect repair too, while we waited!

Shit is it ok to pack some frocks then?

On another note just seen this

Please note that I heard of several attempts of breaking into cars at the Icarai/tabuba lagoon near Cauipe.

Where the kiters park on the meadow they will break into your car.

Take everything out, leave the front pocket open so they can see nothing is inside.
Take the valuables with you to the beach and leave it there, should be safe.

And if someone does not kite, but goes there, pls sit down further away, watch the cars and see who it does. Then report to the police!

I hope they will rob the wrong guy and they will take care of the problem themselves so this stops!

Common stuff really but a timely reminder!

The adapter is slightly different to the European one...the euro ones will work on some sockets but not all I have pulled a whole socket off the wall before now trying to remove the adapter)
The spacing on these are slightly different

Just want to double check Dave, re: luggage allowance. We r allowed 2 pieces at 32kgs each, if one measures over certain linear we pay? Is that correct?

Adapters: thanks..never seen one like that before. May have to get ripped off at the airport

Luggage: Yep. That is what I was told...but you know how it can be!

This is what the website says:

********
For flights originating in Europe and operated by TAM Airlines, the piece system will be applied, which allows the passenger to check two (2) pieces of luggage of up to 50 lbs (23 kg) each.

There are some exceptions for flights originating in London which free baggage allowance for all classes is two pieces of 70lbs (32Kg) each and for flights originating in Frankfurt which free baggage allowance for Business and First Classes is two pieces of 70lbs (32Kg) each.

The maximum linear measurement of each piece should not exceed 62 in (158 cm). In the case of your baggage exceeds the limit, fees will be applied. Baggage measuring more than 115 in/292 cm will not be accepted as checked baggage.
******

So I assume we fall into the 2nd para.

This is the number if you want to double check +44 (0) 20 8741 2005. They were pretty efficient.
It'll help if you have a booking no to hand.

Don't know if this helps you, but I took a National Express bus to Heathrow last year for my snowboarding holiday and they took both my normal sized suitcase and snowboard bag with no fuss. I know a kite bag will be bigger, but if I remember correctly the rule is "two medium sized suitcases, one of which may be a sports bag."

This may help - http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/ourservice/luggage_policy.aspx

Actually reading through that makes it a bit ambiguous, on one hand they say

"We may agree to carry, subject to available accommodation, additional luggage such as skis, surfboards and folding/dismantled bicycles, provided that they are packed in a suitable protective packaging. If we agree to carry any particular luggage on any journey this does not mean that we have agreed to carry that luggage on any subsequent journey you make. Folded bicycles, skis and snow/surfboards will be exempt from the excess luggage charge for 'outsized' items as long as the total number of items is placed in the hold is no more than two."

But then later they say

"(a) Prohibited luggage: We are not obliged to carry any of the following items of luggage, and you may not bring them onto any coach without our permission:
* any weapons
* explosives
* drugs or solvents (other than medicines)
* non folding pushchairs/prams
* oversized sports equipment"

All I know is that I had no problem with my snowboard!

PS: I'm really, really jealous of you all Smile.

What car have you got? Can't you put the front passenger seat down flat? A surfboard should fit in from the back to the front shouldn't it? We did that when we still had our Panda.

Hi all,
For those with go pros, I was contemplating buying one at the airport but I'm wondering if you can just use it as it is out of the box? Or do you need to upload software etc before you use it?
Thanks

Nah it should be good to go!
Are you taking a laptop, you will need a editing suite of some sort if you want to make vids.

ps there are way cheaper deals than at the airport but prob too late now.

Seriously I might just buy a roof rack.

It's a 3-series Sarah, the seats don't go down because it's a saloon.

Your front passenger seat doesn't for forward or backward...? Shocked Change your car, it doesn't suit your sport...! Wink So your surfboard won't even go in diagonally across the back so then you can put it in your bag when you get to the airport ...?

Hello folks!

I was on my 11 yesterday fully depowered but still overpowered. Bigger blokes than me were on 7's. Later in the afternoon around 4pm the wind dropped and I'd have needed my 14 if I'd not been too knackered to go out again. So bring all your kites if you can, but especially the smaller ones, its not stopped blowing since I got here, the wind had the odd gust and went up and down quite a bit during the day but overall pretty good.

If you're flying from Gatwick with TAP, there's a black girl, 25-ish, bit chubby, working at check-in. Try to get her to check you in, she let my boards on for free. You can take two bags of 32kg each plus 8kg hand luggage. That's quite a lot, I was 24kg under that.

I'd intended to get Brazilian money at the bureau de change but they didn't have any. To make matters worse none of the dozen-odd machines at Fortaleza airport were working.

The plugs here are the European round two-pin type. I bought a worldwide adapter made by go-travel-products.com, Sainsburys sell them for about £15.

Cumbuco Guesthouse has both toilet paper and a nifty trigger-operated hose mounted on the cistern, so you're spoilt for choice here!

Caipirinhas here tend to be on the strong side, be careful.

Lastly, my name is spelt with a 'u' and not 'ew' .

I hope this is useful

Stu
