Hi Andy, there is no weight limit on hand luggage, just size limit. The bag must be no bigger than 56 x 45 x 25cm, including the wheels.

Cheers for that. I thought I'd better check - they don't specifically say you have that as well as your sports allowance. Its normal I know but just in case!

I've just had an email from Easyjet to say that we can still bring hand luggage at the size mentioned in an earlier post (24th April) but they can't guarantee that it will be able to stay in the cabin with you , if the flight is busy. However, if you have luggage at 20x40x50, then they will guarantee it will stay in the cabin with you.

Hi Sarah, hope your enjoying your warm up trip, I think Im all paid up, never really convinced by bank transfers, couple of questions on getting there.
What time are we flying and from where, I assume we have to get to the airport, I'm willing to take the van up and will have space for three (only going for the first week). I will be looking round for deals for parking this week, when I know where we have to get to.

If any one wants to split the cost and share a lift send me a PM.

So, boys and girls, everything is booked!
Please remember, it is Sunday to Sunday and the booking doesn't include booze.

Ash, I've put you down as one of the drivers for the cars, hope that's ok. Now, we have a final decision to make, whether to take out the accident excess waiver, if we have an accident in the vehicles we are liable for anything from £1300 and £2000 per vehicle! depending on which vehicle it is. If we pay for the waiver it'll just be £70 each. Let me know what everyone prefers to do?

The flight leaves on the 23.6.13 at 12.55 pm, from Gatwick North Terminal
Returning on 30.6.13 at 15.50pm arriving at 18.00. OR

Returning on the 7.7.13 at 18.00

Any questions please give me a shout.

Hi Marc n Sarah,

Unfortunately I am unable to drive at the moment as I have problems with cataracts and driving in daylight especially if it is bright sunshine. Currently waiting for op after the holiday.

Not sure if Tracy would feel ok about driving abroad but I will ask her, she's at work at the mo so will ask her this evening.

Cheers, can't wait now been week's since on the water.

Hi Sarah. I'm just catching up after a week in Cornwall with no t'internet but plenty of wind (yay!)

Do you need us all to chip in with the waiver? presumably 'yes' - ok by me assuming £70 is the waiver for the car for the week?- divided amongst us ? I agree its the right thing to do as they'll often nail a paint chip on it.

What's the departure details for week 2 peeps? Will you be sending copies of the itineraries out? ( flight numbers etc)?

Anyone travelling from the midlands for week 2 wanna discuss sharing a ride?

The waiver is £70 EACH Andy I'm afraid.
I will b posting all flight details up here, although I have put the dates and times up in my last post, I'm on nights the next couple of days so I will put the flight numbers up when I have a minute. You will need to get to the airport approx 3 hrs b4 the flight coz of our excess baggage it takes so long for us all to check in and then take the board bags to the right place. I will check everyone in on line and then give u your boarding pass at the airport.

The name of the village we're staying in is Praia de Ancora. But the main place we'll b kiting in is Viana Do Castello. I will c if I can find an address of the house we're staying in.

No worries Ash about the driving, I'll get it changed, Ade has been selected :-)

Hi Mike, impossible to say tbh it all depends on the winds whilst there but it can get strong.
As a guide it's usually a 9m that I use and Sarah on a 7m

It will also depend on your board (and obviously experience)
What 9m is it and what is your weight?

Don't know if im a bit thick, Question but this waiver thing have I got it right?
A) we all pay the £70 excess then there will be no more to pay on the cars regardless of any dings, bangs, scratches, or serious damage? Or
B) if we don't pay the waiver, then for any of the above we have to pay an (in)voluntary excess of up to £1300 - 2000 on return of the car(s) at their discretion

Hi Sarah. I can see the outward and return flight dates/times for week 1 in your post and the return for week 2 but not the outward flight time for week 2. Apologies if im being thick. Is it the same time out on the 30th as the 23rd?
Ok with the waiver premium (but seems expensive for any waiver). I'll transfer it by end next week.

Hi Marc. I'm assuming I'll be needing my 12 with me right? And the 9m Rebel - presumably I won't be needing a smaller kite?

Andy, if you can keep within the weight limits i'd personaly take as many kites as you can, probably focusing on between kites between 6 - 10m, as my experinces last year were you could get out earlier on bigger kites but invariably give it an hour or so and you'd be changing down to 9's or 7's, or alternatively just chill on the beach and wait for it to pick up then go out with smaller kites.
And as Marc intimated when it picks up, "it picks up!" I'll take 7.5, & 9.5m defiantly (only need 1 bar), and weight permiting an 11.5 . Hope this helps but you know unpredictably of this sport.

Peter, that does help. I've got a 9m Vegas but its more like a conventional 7m power wise. What wind speeds are we talking? 30mph? 35? More?
Was wondering whether to take 2 board but that's probably out the question.

Packing:- everyone take a standard kite bag with each kite or vacuum pack for travel and no bag? What works best for stowing a kite once were there?

Hi Andy, got your pm regards kite size etc

It's so difficult to advise other than take everything you can!
From what I remember your old board was pretty small overall (even though it may be 135cm)
So I reckon the 140cm board would be a better bet.

Sorry Andy, no you're not being thick, it was me forgetting about the 2nd week. You leave at 12.55 on the 30.6.13 from North terminal Gatwick.
The waiver is alot because one of the vehicles is a van as we need the space to take everyone's gear back and forth to the beach. :-)
Yes please to the transfer of the waiver or give it to me in cash when we go as I don't need to pay for it until we pick the vehicles up :-)

Whats the best way to pack kites and transport them once were there?. I've seen people vac pack the kites and leave the bag behind and then carry a loose kite when abroad. I'm guessing this gets messy with 12+ kites in the back of a van so I'm guessing were taking proper bags?
So for packing:-
- Take the kite in its bag and vacuum pack the whole thing? or
- Vac pack the kite separately?

whats the best way? IS everyone taking their bags?

Cheers

Andy

We tend to only take 1 or 2 kite bags as you can fit 2 kites in one bag. But it's up to you.

AndyC, I was thinking of getting a couple of Ikea bags as they flat pack and very light for carrying them around and vacuum bags for the flight

I have booked parking this week, skyparks are offering 20% off this month, I got meet and greet for £50 the week, no bus rides for me

Gareth, PM m your number and we can arrange the timing for the trip up cheers

Hey Ash, no hair dryers I'm afraid, although I've just bought a European one b4, but it blew up on our last trip so I think I'm just going to buy another one. There'll probably be a BBQ, but don't think your weight allowance will allow u to take coal etc ;-)

There are bath towels but not beach towels. There is also wifi! And a washing machine!

The flight nos. are:

23rd and 30th june outbound 8497
30th June and 7th July inbound 8498

Any further questions just give me a shout.

Just an update on weight allowance for luggage, you're OVERALL wt allowance is 32kgs, (suitcase and board bag)

If anyone would like to book an extra suitcase it's £50 for an extra 20kgs. Or £54 for an extra board bag.

Hi Sarah, Presumably the single large 'golf bag' style kit bag at 32kg is still ok?...come under the description 'board bag'.

Hi ya Andy, the bag like this one

http://www.blastkiteboarding.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=209

Yes is fine, but you can't have your board bag at 32kgs and then your suitcase ontop, it's both combined.

HI Marc and Sarah,

Which parking agent do you normally use at Gatwick? Currently £120 for the 2-weeks on site at Gatwick?

Do you drop off kit with Sarah at Departures first and then park?

We will be in the transporter so limited with headroom at some car parks.

Cheers

I have a couple last questions then I think im sorted Smile.

Does the flight on the 7th get back to the uk at 1800 and which terminal.

Will a post office pre paid cash card be ok in portugal they use mastercard. rather than take cash.

Do you think shorts and tea shirts is all I need with a couple pairs of jeans Smile.

I have never been this organised in my life.

Regards

Mike
