That clashes with snowkiting in Iceland so its one or the other unless I can come for a week and do both. How much roughly?

It's not going to work, just a week I'm afraid as we wouldn't b able to collect you from the airport, it's too far, and we would have to find someone to fill your space for the week that your not there because the price all depends on us filling a house. Sorry Stuart.

OK, so that idea won't work, it's possible the Iceland trip will be moved to April anyway especially if I start lobbying now, glacier was a bit slushy last May. How much roughly for the two weeks then?

(BTW, what's the world coming to when one kiting trip clashes with another?)

Not 100% sure yet Stuart, but It's going to be approximately £1000 for 2 weeks, but this will only include money in a kitty for breakfast probably.

Ok, Iceland dates are set, they clash completely with this trip. So its one or the other. Before I decide I have another question: Are you gonna be doing another Portugal trip in June 2013?

Ok, so we need some of your opinions, do we, have a house which is closer to a wide selection of shops and restaurants, but have to drive 40 mins every day to the main kiting spot, or, do we have a house with the kiting spot on our door step and where there are less shops and restaurants, so therefore drive 40 mins to have dinner in the evenings?
Please let us know what you guys think thanks.

This is the opinion of Ian and I; stay closer to the kiting. You say there are less shops etc here but if you can kite literally on the doorstep, bonus!

If there are still a few restaurants and shops close by they are surely an option if no one fancies the 40min drive for more choice, or does the location mean that the 40min drive has to be done every evening?

If the drive has to be done either way, won't it be better doing it at the end of the day as it'll cutdown on the hassle of loading and unloading shed loads of kit on a daily basis; also save on fuel costs too perhaps...?

That's our opinion for what it's worth... Go where the kiting is, but anyone wanting the night life and a few drinks might have a different opinion, so we're happy to go with the flow. Though I do have to add, falling out of bed and walking outside to go and kite is a real treat. We can do the driving bit every day from home! Wink

Thanks Sarah, and Tony, there are some restaurants to eat at where we would kite, just not as many choices, also, it depends in how often we would cook ourselves, I guess we wouldn't eat out, every evening?

If there are some choices of restaurants close by the kite spot, sounds good to us. We managed with the lack of eateries we had where we were in Brazil Wink. Cooking some nights is also good with us.

We've just had another thought... If the kiting is on your doorstep, people can come and go as they please; have a short kite day, go for an afternoon nap or whatever. Driving daily to the kite spots means you're stuck there 'til the last person is off the water, so that'll mean the rest of us waiting for Ian to come in... Wink Laughing

Sarah, as Marc and you know the area better than the rest of us, I'm sure whatever you go with will be fine. We'll just be happy to be kiting in Hatteras Smile What do the both of you reckon on locations?

I agree with Sarah , it would be good to stay nearer the kiting. Just have to make sure we're organised with food etc if decide to eat in.

But will go along with what ever Very Happy

Thanks everyone....
It's a difficult one, each time I've been I've stayed up in Nags Head, approx 30mins North of the main kiting spots, that said you can also kite up there (I did this the last week I was there last week)

It does make a lot of sense to stay down the coast, and we can just go to Nags Head etc if there was no wind etc

Are you not normally able to kite around Nags Head? Is it just a seasonal thing?

Do you have pictures of the houses of choice? Will that help with the decision making...? Wink

More time will be spent kiting so the less travelling time for it the better in my mind. If there are still a few shops and restaurants to be going on with at the kiting area, then it's a win-win. cheers

Maybe you need to start a pros and cons list for each case... Wink

You can kite at Nags Head, it just depends on wind direction and strength, last May trip we kites more down the spot we're looking at getting a house, but this trip Marc kites more at Nags Head. I've been looking at houses and at the moment I've found nicer ones at Nags Head, I will post some pictures up over the next few days as I'm working difficult shifts :-(

Sarah (R)
Not sure how you are for numbers now?
Harry, Ray & Dave (me) are pretty interested. Harry & Dave - very, Ray-fairly..
Would be keen to have an idea of accommodation. Not sure if I fancy sharing a bed with Harry (&/or Ray !) for a two week stint....

Cheers

Hi Dave there are plenty of spaces, and most of the houses have a room with bunk beds and the majority of other rooms with a double bed, so if you don't mind the bunk beds welcome aboard :-) I am hoping to post some pictures of the houses up at some point this week, deposits will b b4 Xmas :-)

Ok, here are some photos of the kind of place I'm looking at. I've found that quite a few of the larger houses are getting booked up so I think I am not going to be too restrictive with choosing the area to stay. To be honest nothing is really more than 40 mins away, we won't have to be emptying the cars at the end of each day as all the houses have their own private parking.
There are 7 places left so if you like what you see get your name on the list, we wll be taking deposits within the next 2 weeks.
